BPMN Training Part 11: Script Task

Chapter Overview

In this training chapter you get familiar with the BPMN script task.

A script task is mainly used to implement business logic using TypeScript. In addition, a script task may have a link to Backend Service Model as a submodel.

A server service model can be used for

  • the implementation of a complex business logic
  • the connection to external systems
  • database access
  • PDF and Excel file handling
  • access to a document management system
  • etc. (see tutorials of server service models)

Tutorial Model: Automation/Business Process/Tutorial/BPM/ScriptTask/UserRegistration

Process Explanation:

  • The process starts with a user task "Request Registration".
  • After the gateway "Is canceled?" the default flow "NO" triggers a script task "Moderate Registration"
  • This script task is linked to a server service submodel "Registration Moderation" containing further business logic implementation.
  • The second script task is used to implement the busines logic for "Approve Registration by Age" followed by a user task "View Registration Result"
  • The process will then be repeated, if the gateway "Has Retry?" is true, otherwise the process is terminated.
