BPMN Transaction Subprocess Model - xAPPnow Low Code Platform
A BPMN Transaction Subprocess model of the xAPPnow Low Code Platform is a composed activity that is included within a process. A BPMN Transaction Subprocess cannot be reused by another process or collaboration model other than the parent process itself.
A transaction is a logical unit of work, which will either fail or succeed collectively.
A transaction may have one of the following three outcomes:
-
A transaction is successful if it is terminated by an End Event and is neither canceled or terminated by an error. A successful transaction subprocess is left by the outgoing sequence flow(s). Similar to an embedded subprocess, a transaction subprocess may be compensated afterwards by a compensation event.
-
A transaction is ended by an error if the subprocess ends with an error event which is not handled inside the scope of the transaction subprocess. In this case, a compensation is not performed.
-
A transaction is canceled if the execution reaches a cancel end event. All executions are then terminated and removed, only a single execution stays at the cancel end event to trigger compensation. After compensation, the execution continues with the outgoiung sequence flow(s) of the cancel boundary event.A transaction subprocess differs from a technical transaction. In comparision, instead of using generic solutions for rollback or isolation levels, domain specific solutions for this problems, e.g. in case of long running processes, have to be found, like a modeled compensation.
